Te Tohu O Te Ora o Ngati Awa deliver Aukati Kaipaipa through Maori framework based upon the teachings of Ngati Awa Tupuna. Through the approcahes of Te Ihorangi, Turangawaewae, whakapapa and understanding Te Ao Turoa our Quit Coaches will provide a programme for you that is clinically founded and culturally connected.
You and your whanau will be supported through the state of Te Korenga, Te Aranga Ake, Te Ohonga Ake, Te Mohiotanga, Te maramatanga to reach the ultimate goal of becoming smokefree. Te Phonga ake o nga wairua o nga whanau is the ultimate aim of Te Tohu O Te Ora o Ngati Awa. Rejuvinating whanau is the key to strengthening the Whanau, Hapu and Iwi.
Do YOU want to QUIT smoking?
Aukati Kai Paipa is a 12 month supported programme which includes:
-Face to face contacts in your home or any other place you feel comfortable
-Telephone contact
-Weekly contact for the first four months and once a month for the following eight months or as needed.
-Counseling and support
-Group sessions bringing individuals who are quiting together for education and information
-Education for individual on programme and their whanau
-Access to Nicotine Replacement Thereapy (NRT)- Patches and Gum
-Identification of other support eg. whanau and friends
The Key Objective of the Aukati Kai Paipa Programme is to:
"Reduce smoking amognst Maori women and their whanau"
Aukati Kai Paipa aims to:
-Encourage and support Maori and others, 18 years and over who want to change their smoking behaviour
-Ensure services are developed that build on existing control initiatives
-Prevent harm to smokers and reduce the risks associated with the continued smoking
-Prevent harm to the foetus, pepi, tamariki, ragatahi, pakeke/matua non-smokers by reducing exposure to second-hand smoke.
