Our Asthma Management Service has a registered nurse available to:


-  Provide followup and support for people who have recently been in hospital with asthma
- Help whanau to monitor and assess their asthma
- Provide education within the community to assorted groups, adults and children about asthma control
- Supply information about educational resources on asthma
- Liaise and refer with other appropriate agencies and services
- Provide kaiawhina/advocacy support

- The use of peak flow meters
- The benefits of having an action plan
- Puffers and other devices

ASTHMA FIRST AID
If an asthma attack comes on suddenly, or is severe (the person has trouble speaking), or they are frightened...

CALL AN AMBULANCE - DIAL 111
Sit the person upright and stay with them

ADMINISTER MEDICATION
Give BLUE reliever inhaler SIX  times for a child (one shot per 6 breaths) or TEN times for an adult

Wait FIVE minutes, then repeat at 5 minute intervals until help arrives.
